Come enjoy Lake Michigan’s dark winter mood, ice fish on Pentwater Lake, cross country ski in the woods of Pentwater Plains, or curl up with a book as it blows outside. We’ll have your room ready when you are.

“Off the main streets so it’s quiet, but close to everything. It’s just a short walk to downtown” -Brenda E.

Meet the Owner

Lisa Wells

When I purchased the Channel Lane Inn from the Schlattmans in 2008 I was working as a social worker in Kalamazoo and dreaming of living closer to Lake Michigan. I grew up nearby in Shelby and have always loved the lakeshore. The motel has been a dream come true! I live onsite and enjoy my job as a hostess to the many individuals discovering Pentwater’s charm for the first time and to those repeat visitors making generations of memories in this beautiful area. My children graduated from Pentwater Public School and I’m an active member of the Pentwater community with participation in local government, the public school, civic clubs, and social groups.

History of the Inn

1957 – Originally constructed by the Kaye family as a ranch house with 6 connected kitchenette rooms, Channel Lane Inn was first known as Kaye Apartments.

A garage was located beside the house and in the 1960’s the Kaye’s converted the garage into an additional rental unit. We now call it the 1-Bedroom Cottage, but some guests still refer to it as “The Garage.”

Numerous owners followed the Kayes:

1978 – William L. Bolinger

1981 – Norman E. Kuhne

1990 – Glenn & Donna Schlattman

1995 – The Schlattmans constructed the 2nd floor living space above the Inn and converted the lower ranch home into what is now the 2-Bedroom Suite.

2008 – The Channel Lane Inn was purchased by Lisa Wells, the current owner and innkeeper.

Since purchasing the Inn, Lisa has continuously worked to improve the property, updating exterior siding, windows, some sliding doors, all mattresses, all refrigerators, cupboards, countertops, flooring, and several stovetops.

2019 – Channel Lane Inn underwent significant exterior renovation, including the addition of a wrap-around porch.
